Three ways we steer a Case

  1. Electric motor kit on the column

AT2 Lite, AT2, AT2 Max or AT2 Ultra. A motor and a model-specific bracket bolt to the steering column and turn the wheel. Fits any Case or International with a steering wheel. This is what goes on the 86 and 88 series, the 7100 and 7200 Magnums, 8900s, MX Magnums, Farmalls and base-model Steigers. Most farmers install it themselves in an afternoon.

  2. AS2 on the factory CAN plug

Case IH’s newer guidance-ready tractors steer over the CAN network, and the AFS Connect Magnum, Puma T4B and T5, Maxxum T4B, Optum and Vestrum are on FJD’s approved CAN-steer list. AS2 plugs into the factory connector with no motor on the column. We confirm the serial number before it ships.

  3. AH2 hydraulic kit on the factory valve

Guidance-ready Magnums, Pumas and Maxxums from before CAN steering carry an Eaton steering valve, and guidance-ready Steigers and STX tractors drive theirs with a voltage signal, not CAN. AH2 runs that valve. On Steigers it takes a new valve head and two plug changes, a job our dealer network has done dozens of times. No valve at all, we can add one.

Case IH and International model families and what fits

What each family came with from the factory, and what we usually put on it. A family being listed means the option existed, not that every tractor has it, so we confirm on your unit before anything ships.

Model familyFrom the factoryWhat we usually install
International 66, 86 and 88 series
1066, 1086, 1486, 1586, 3088, 3288, 5088, 5288, 5488
No steering valve. Power steering only.Electric motor kit on the column.

2294, 2394, 2594, 7110 to 7150, 7210 to 7250
No steering valve.Electric motor kit. On a 7130 the shaft spins, so the bracket clamps to the collar below it.
Magnum 8900 and MX Magnum
8910 to 8950, MX180 to MX305
Base models have no valve. Guidance-ready MX210 to MX305 units carry an Eaton valve.Motor kit on most. AH2 on the valve where there is one.
Magnum 215 to 340 and Tier 4 Magnum
215, 245, 275, 305, 335, 235 to 370, Rowtrac
Guidance-ready units have an Eaton valve. Base models do not.AH2 on the valve, motor kit on base models.
AFS Connect Magnum
180 to 400, 2020 and newer
CAN steering from the factory. On FJD’s approved list.AS2 plugs into the factory CAN connector.
Maxxum
110 to 150, Tier 4B, MC
Base models have no valve. Tier 4B guidance-ready units have an Eaton valve, or CAN steering on CVT and later Powershift units.AS2 on the CAN units, AH2 on the valve, motor kit on base models.
Puma
115 to 240, Tier 4A, Tier 4B, Tier 5, AFS Connect
Base models have no valve. Tier 4A guidance-ready units have an Eaton valve. Tier 4B and newer steer over CAN.AS2 on Tier 4B and newer, AH2 on Tier 4A valves, motor kit on base models.
Optum and Vestrum
Optum 250 to 300, Vestrum 100 to 130
CAN steering. On FJD’s approved list.AS2 plugs in.
Farmall
A, C, U, N, V and 100A series
No steering valve.Electric motor kit. An 85C takes the 15-tooth spline and the heavy bracket.
Steiger 9100 to 9390 and base STX
9130 to 9390, STX 275 to 535
No steering valve.Electric motor kit run in articulated mode, or AH2 with a valve added.
Guidance-ready Steiger, STX, Quadtrac, Rowtrac
STX 275 to 535, Steiger 350 to 620, Tier 4 and 4b
Eaton valve driven by a voltage signal. Not CAN, even on units sold as CAN.AH2 on the factory valve with a new valve head. Quadtracs included.
AFS Connect Steiger
370 to 620, 2020 and newer
CAN steering, but not on FJD’s approved list yet.AH2 on the valve with a new head, or the motor kit.

What goes on the tractor

FJD AT2 electric steering motor mounted on a tractor steering column
The motor bolts to the steering column and turns the wheel. Nothing in the hydraulics is touched.
FJD GNSS receiver mounted on a tractor roof
The GNSS receiver goes on the roof and takes the RTK correction over cellular or radio.

Things we have learned on Case installs

  • A 2005 MX210 and a 2010 Magnum 305 both take the number 14 spline and no bracket, just the screws. A 7130 Magnum takes the number 4 sleeve, and the plastic piece on that column is only a cover, it does not come off.
  • An MXM 190 shares its column with the MX240 and MX270 and takes the 18-1, 1 1/4 and 4-J adapter family. Even then it wanted spacers and lock washers to seat.
  • Steigers normally take a 19-tooth or 6-tooth spline, but some have a keyway hub with no teeth. We stock a few keyway adapters and have had custom splines machined when nothing fit. A 1976 Wildcat ST210 has a cone-wedge hub with a key, and we stock adapters for that too.
  • The valve heads on guidance-ready Steigers and Magnums are not temperature compensated. Steering is jerky for the first hour until the oil warms up, then smooths out. We tune for it, and if a head has wiggle in it we replace it with the twin-coil style.
  • Sale year and build year are different things. A Puma 200 sold as a 2018 turned out to be a 2011 to 2013 build by its serial number. We pick harnesses by the build date, so send us the serial.
  • An old Outback CAN-style valve on an MX210 cannot be reused by AS2 or AH2. That tractor gets our 30L valve.
  • On a Case 2394 the steering-wheel nut has to be ground down a little to clear the motor. Common on older columns, and a five-minute job.
What to send us for a quote
  • Model and year, and the serial number if you can read it.
  • A photo of the steering column from the seat, so we match the bracket and spline.
  • On Magnums, Pumas and Steigers, whether a dealer ever put guidance on it, and a photo of any valve or round connector you can find.
  • Any implement you want rate or section control on, and which display is already in the cab.

Common questions from Case owners

Will auto steer work on my International 1486?

Yes. The electric motor kit bolts to the steering column and turns the wheel, so it works on any International or Case with a steering wheel and power steering. The 86 and 88 series are regulars for us.

My Steiger is guidance-ready. Does the AS2 plug in?

No. Steigers and STX tractors drive the steering valve with a voltage signal, not CAN, even when they are advertised as CAN. We run the AH2 on the factory valve with a new valve head and two plug changes. It is a repeatable job and works on Quadtracs.

My Magnum is a 2020 or newer AFS Connect. Does it plug in?

Yes. The AFS Connect Magnum is on FJD’s approved CAN-steer list. The AS2 plugs into the factory connector, no motor on the column. Same for Puma Tier 4B and Tier 5, Maxxum Tier 4B, Optum and Vestrum. We confirm by serial number before it ships.

Do I have to replace my steering valve?

Usually not. On guidance-ready Magnums and Pumas the AH2 runs the Eaton valve that is already there. On Steigers we change the valve head, not the valve. If your tractor has no valve, you can run the motor kit or have us add a valve.

Can it feed GPS to my Pro 700?

Yes. We can send GPS and speed from our receiver to a Pro 700 for planter, section and yield-monitor work. We do not recommend having the Pro 700 do the steering. Our display steers.

Do I need my own base station?

Usually not. Every kit ships with an RTK plan, and most customers run on the GEODNET network, which needs no base station of your own. Where coverage is thin we set you up with a base station or StarNav. We check coverage at your farm before we quote.

Who installs it and who do I call?

Most farmers install the motor kit themselves in an afternoon with our tech on the phone. Steer-ready and hydraulic installs take longer and we walk you through them. After that you call or text Deep Sand Tech in Oklahoma, and we can log into the display remotely to help.
