Three ways we steer a New Holland

  1. Electric motor kit on the column

AT2 Lite, AT2, AT2 Max or AT2 Ultra. A motor and a model-specific bracket bolt to the steering column and turn the wheel. Fits any Ford or New Holland with a steering wheel. This is what goes on the Fords, Genesis, TM, TS, TL, base-model TG, T6 and T7, and the TJ four-wheel drives. Most farmers install it themselves in an afternoon.

  2. AS2 on the factory CAN plug

T7 Tier 4B and Tier 5, T6 Tier 4B Powershift, T5 AutoCommand and the 2020 and newer PLM Intelligence T8 steer over CAN and are on FJD’s approved list. AS2 plugs into the factory connector with no motor on the column. We confirm the serial number before it ships.

  3. AH2 hydraulic kit on the factory valve

Guidance-ready TG, T7000, T7500, T8000 and T8 tractors carry an Eaton steering valve. The factory guidance box does not steer them, a controller behind it does, so AH2 is wired straight to the valve. Guidance-ready T9 and TJ four-wheel drives drive their valve with a voltage signal and take a new valve head, same as a Steiger. No valve at all, we can add one.

New Holland and Ford model families and what fits

What each family came with from the factory, and what we usually put on it. A family being listed means the option existed, not that every tractor has it, so we confirm on your unit before anything ships.

What goes on the tractor

FJD AT2 electric steering motor mounted on a tractor steering column
The motor bolts to the steering column and turns the wheel. Nothing in the hydraulics is touched.
FJD GNSS receiver mounted on a tractor roof
The GNSS receiver goes on the roof and takes the RTK correction over cellular or radio.

Things we have learned on New Holland installs

  • Three different tractors are called an 8870. The New Holland 8870 takes a 6 spline, the Ford 8870 takes the 4-J, and the John Deere 8870 is an articulated tractor. Tell us which badge is on the hood.
  • The plastic column shroud on an 8870 has no metal to bolt to. On an 8670 we open the plastic, cut a two-inch strip off the lower half and clamp around the column. On one 8870 the customer welded a mount. We walk you through it.
  • A T4.75 that already has an EZ-Pilot bracket is easy. The holes line up with our motor.
  • On a guidance-ready T8.320 or T8.330 the factory guidance box does not steer the tractor. It only feeds a controller. So we wire the AH2 straight to the valve, power and signal to each side plus the pressure sensor, instead of trying to talk to the factory protocol.
  • CNH valve heads are not temperature compensated. Steering is jerky the first hour until the oil warms up, and a head with wiggle in it wears out fast. We tune for the cold and swap a loose head for the twin-coil style.
  • An old Outback CAN-style valve on a TG215 SuperSteer cannot be reused by AS2 or AH2. That tractor gets our 30L valve.
  • Hydraulic hookup on a SuperSteer 8970: left and right hoses go to the steering cylinders, and the load-sense line runs to the steering orbital. Plug ports G, D and EF during the install so oil does not bypass the valve.
  • Steer-ready and motor-kit harnesses look alike and are not interchangeable. The motor kit uses a black 12-pin and a grey 12-pin, the steer-ready kit a black 18-pin and a grey 12-pin. We check the box before it ships.
What to send us for a quote
  • Model and year, and whether the badge says Ford, Ford New Holland or New Holland.
  • A photo of the steering column from the seat, so we match the bracket and spline.
  • On TG, T7, T8, T9 and TJ, whether a dealer ever put guidance on it, and a photo of any valve or connector you can find.
  • Any implement you want rate or section control on, and which display is already in the cab.

Common questions from New Holland owners

Will auto steer work on my Ford 8630?

Yes. The electric motor kit bolts to the steering column and turns the wheel, so it works on any Ford or New Holland with a steering wheel and power steering. Ford columns vary, so we send the full adapter kit.

My T8 is guidance-ready. Is it plug and play?

On a 2020 or newer PLM Intelligence T8, yes, the AS2 plugs into the CAN connector. On older guidance-ready T8s the factory box does not steer the tractor, so we wire the AH2 straight to the steering valve. It is a proven install, just not a plug-in one.

Does the AS2 plug into my T7?

Tier 4B and newer T7s steer over CAN and are on FJD’s approved list, so yes. Tier 4A and T7000 guidance-ready units have an Eaton valve instead, and those take the AH2. Send us the serial and we will tell you which you have.

What about my SuperSteer?

SuperSteer changes the front axle, not the steering valve. What matters is whether your tractor has a factory valve, and we check that from a photo. Guidance-ready SuperSteer TGs and T7s run the AH2. Base models run the motor kit.

Can it steer my swather?

Yes. Speedrowers and the 8040 run the motor kit with the heavy bracket. If a previous guidance system left a Vickers valve in it, the AH2 runs that valve.

Do I need my own base station?

Usually not. Every kit ships with an RTK plan, and most customers run on the GEODNET network, which needs no base station of your own. Where coverage is thin we set you up with a base station or StarNav. We check coverage at your farm before we quote.

Who installs it and who do I call?

Most farmers install the motor kit themselves in an afternoon with our tech on the phone. Steer-ready and hydraulic installs take longer and we walk you through them. After that you call or text Deep Sand Tech in Oklahoma, and we can log into the display remotely to help.
